Description
Intaglio Mint was established in 2010 as a privately held “boutique” Mint headquartered in Ozark, Missouri. The are a full-service mint, with all facets of the coin-making process completed in-house. They are well-known for producing coins, tokens, medallions and rounds that commemorate special events, places, persons and other things of historical value.
This particular round contains 2 troy ounces of .999 fine silver and pays tribute to a coin released after World War I in an effort to symbolize peace: The Peace Dollar. Designed by Anthony De Francisci, a total of only 1,006,473 Peace Dollars were struck during their initial release in 1921, making this date one of the scarcer issues of the series. These coins were produced with a high-relief design, the use of which unfortunately led to dies to wearing out faster and many weaknesses in detail. Due to so many coins having minting issues, Peace Dollars with higher grades are highly sought after by collectors.
Obverse: The original depiction of the crowned/capped head of Lady Liberty, “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “LIBERTY,” and the date “1921” are all inscribed.
Reverse: A depiction of an eagle standing on a rock with its wings folded and olive branches in its talons, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” the weight and purity are all inscribed.
Diameter: 39mm; Thickness: 6mm.
