Description
Intaglio Mint was established in 2010 as a privately held “boutique” Mint headquartered in Ozark, Missouri. They are a full-service mint, with all facets of the coin-making process completed in-house. They are well-known for producing coins, tokens, medallions and rounds that commemorate special events, places, persons and other things of historical value.
This particular round contains 2 troy ounces of .999 fine silver and pays tribute to the 1794 issued Flowing Hair design created originally by Robert Scot. Before the original 13 colonies issued their own currency, they were dependent upon currency issued by the crown of England. This economic control exerted by the British rule was one of the many reasons the American colonies rebelled and issued their Declaration of Independence in 1776. Having successfully defeated the British and earned their independence, the Silver Dollar was authorized by the Act of April 2, 1792, and the newly established US Mint began issuing American coinage in 1793. The first Flowing Hair designs released in 1794 only had a mintage of 1,758 coins, making them extremely rare to find now. Since possessing an original is impossible for everyone to own, this commemorative round makes it economically feasible for others to enjoy this beautiful and historic design.
