Description
Intaglio Mint was established in 2010 as a privately held “boutique” Mint headquartered in Ozark, Missouri. They are a full-service mint, with all facets of the coin-making process completed in-house. They are well-known for producing coins, tokens, medallions and rounds that commemorate special events, places, persons and other things of historical value.
This particular round contains 2 troy ounces of .999 fine silver and pays tribute to one of the rarest numismatic coins ever released from the US Mint: the 1804 Draped Bust Dollar. Having successfully defeated the British and earned their independence, the Silver Dollar was authorized by The United States via the Act of April 2, 1792, and the newly established US Mint began issuing American coinage in 1793. Unfortunately, there was an almost universal dissatisfaction of the first coins released by US Mint. In response, Congress decreed a new design in 1796 to replace the disliked design of the Flowing Hair dollar. By congressional decree, new features were required to be included on the new dollar, such as: an eagle, stars, and the words “LIBERTY” and “UNITED STATES.” The Greatest 100 U.S. Coins chose the 1804 silver dollar as the number one most famous coin due to its low mintage. Since possessing an original is impossible for everyone to own, this commemorative round makes it economically feasible for others to enjoy this beautiful and historic design.
Obverse: The original design of the Draped Bust of Lady Liberty as designed by Chief Engraver Robert Scot, the date of 1804, the word “LIBERTY,” and 13 stars are inscribed.
Reverse: The original design of a Heraldic Eagle (which replaced the naturalistic small eagle design) grasping arrows and an olive branch as designed by Chief Engraver Robert Scot.
Diameter: 39mm; Thickness: 6mm.
