Description
Intaglio Mint was established in 2010 as a privately held “boutique” Mint headquartered in Ozark, Missouri. They are a full-service mint, with all facets of the coin-making process completed in-house. They are well-known for producing coins, tokens, medallions and rounds that commemorate special events, places, persons and other things of historical value.
This particular round is part of Intaglio’s Colonial Tribute Series, contains 2 troy ounces of .999 fine silver, and pays tribute to the first American coinage of the Continental Dollar. Before the original 13 colonies issued their own currency, they were dependent upon currency issued by the crown of England. This economic control exerted by the British rule was one of the many reasons the American colonies rebelled and issued their Declaration of Independence in 1776. Shortly after signing this Declaration, delegates of the Continental Congress met and issued $241 million dollars’ worth of these coins to pay off their debts for their revolutionary war.
Obverse: The design depicts a sun beaming down upon a sundial with inscriptions such as “MIND YOUR BUSINESS” and “FUGIO.”
Reverse: The design depicts 13 circles chained together (representative of the strong bond between the thirteen colonies) and contains inscriptions with each colony’s name with “WE ARE ONE” inscribed in the center.
Diameter: 39mm; Thickness: 6mm.
