Within this park is the only known site where the Columbus expedition set foot in what is now United States territory. The park also contains Fort Sale an early 17th century earthwork fortification and serves as an important support system for threatened and endangered species.
The reverse of this coin depicts a red mangrove tree sapling rising from the water in a wide open bay with more trees in the background.
