Description
The America the Beautiful Silver Coin Series is notable for it’s large, and beautifully designed illustrations, making them a prized gift for the discerning silver collector. The Specimen version of this coin is vapor blasted after minting, giving them a distinctive matte finish. They are also incased in plastic capsule for added protection and are placed in a presentation box. In addition the Specimen version is distinguished from the bullion version by the “P” mint mark engraved below “IN GOD WE TRUST”.
This coin commemorates the Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve, located on the northern side of St Croix in the US Virgin Islands. Within this park is the only known site where the Columbus expedition set foot in what is now United States territory. The park also contains Fort Sale an early 17th century earthwork fortification and serves as an important support system for threatened and endangered species.
The reverse of this coin depicts a red mangrove tree sapling rising from the water in a wide open bay with more trees in the background.
