Description
In World War II, Canada joined forces with the United States to create the First Special Service Force (FSSF) informally known as “The Devil’s Brigade.” Although it was only in operation for two years, this elite team of combat forces was highly successful in conquering its foes in battle. It was later dismantled, with the forces breaking up into groups that are now known in Canada as “Joint-Task-Force 2” and the Navy Seals, Delta Force, and Green Berets in the United States. This coin from the Royal Canadian Mint commemorates these First Special Service Forces in one-half of a troy ounce of .9999 fine silver.
Obverse: Susanna Blunt’s rendition of Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth II and the denomination.
Reverse: The FSSF patch with depictions of an American Bald Eagle and a Maple Leaf on each side of it. Also inscribed are the date, weight and purity.
