Description
The United States Marine Corps (USMC) was authorized by the Continental Congress during the American Revolutionary War and was created on November 10, 1775. The Marines were designated as the landing forces to be deployed by the recently created Continental Navy. This medal has been designed to commemorate the almost 250+ years of success that this brave department of specially trained soldiers have had in overcoming America’s foes on just about any theater of battle: whether “… in the air, on land and sea.” The medal is made out of one troy ounce of .999 fine silver and is housed inside a clear plastic capsule and presented inside a US Mint display box.
Reverse: The official emblem of the USMC is featured along with motto “SEMPER FIDELIS” (Latin for “always faithful”) and the words “HONOR COURAGE COMMITMENT.”
Obverse: Three marines are depicted in action with their M4 rifles and a US Warship in the background.
Diameter: 40.6 mm.
