All hail the silver bug – aka – the lover of all things silver! This round is from Silver Bug High Relief Series from the Intaglio Mint and contains two troy ounces of .999 pure silver. This round is a tribute to the Dynastinae or “Rhinoceros” beetle, which is in a subfamily of the scarab beetle. Ancient Egyptians worshipped the scarab beetle and depicted it often in their hieroglyphics and other artistic renderings. Many scarabs have a jewel-like appearance with tones of silver and gold mixed-in with other vibrant colors, giving its shell the rich and sophisticated look of royalty when compared to other insects. In deciding the right specimen(s) worthy of being considered as a “silver bug,” the scarab beetle and its closely related subfamilies seem like a natural fit!
