Description
Designed after the gorgeous Walking Liberty half dollar that was minted in the United States from 1916 to 1947, this 1/2 troy ounce .999 silver round from Golden State Mint is a lovely tribute! The Walking Liberty design is actually the result of competition conducted in 1915 by the Commission of Fine Arts under the instruction of the US Mint’s director, Robert Woolley. The winning Walking Liberty design, created by Adolph Weinman, was selected to be used for the new half dollar as a replacement for the long-served designs Charles Barber that had been in circulation since 1892. This 1/2 troy ounce .999 round is struck in a higher purity of silver, allowing for the design to be struck better than it was on the harder 90% silver planchets used up until 1947 when the design was replaced by the one depicting Benjamin Franklin.
