Description
This 2024 Medal is the 230th anniversary tribute to the first dollar coin issued on October 15, 1794 by the U.S. federal government: The Flowing Hair dollar coin. Mintage is limited to only 75,000 medals, and the first batch released sold out by the US Mint very quickly upon release. Struck at the Philadelphia minting facility, this historic medal is .999 fine silver with an uncirculated finish. The portrait of a woman with “flowing hair” was designed and sculpted by Robert Scot, the U.S. Mint’s first Chief Engraver. The portrait faces right and is surrounded by 15 stars, representative of the 15 states that had ratified the Constitution by 1794. The Liberty inscription is retained in the 2024 Medal, just as it was first inscribed on the original coin.
Obverse: Flowing Hair woman, 15 stars, the word “Liberty,” and the date.
Reverse: An American Bald Eagle surround by a laurel wreath, along with “The United States of America.”
Diameter: 40.6 mm
