Description
This 2011 $5 Army proof coin contains .2419 troy ounces of gold and is a great addition to any military collection! The United States Army was established by Continental Congress on June 14, 1775 in order to repel the British invaders during the American Revolution. The first US Armies were mostly made up of volunteers, with mercenaries and paid conscripts eventually joining forces as the war progressed. Given that we are still the free country called the United States of America today, we definitely owe a great debt of gratitude to all those who have served in our armed forces over the past 250 years. The commemorative coin is a great way to both hold gold and pay tribute to the US Army!
Obverse: Soldiers from different time periods of battle are featured. From left to right, Continental, Civil War, modern era, World War II and World War I soldiers are depicted. The words “LIBERTY” and “IN GOD WE TRUST” are inscribed along with the date.
Reverse: The official emblem of the US Army, “THIS WE’LL DEFEND” (the motto of the US Army), “DEPARTMENT OF THE ARMY,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “1775,” and the denomination are all inscribed.
Diameter: 21.6 mm; Width: 1.75 mm.
