Description
Founded in 1968, the Special Olympics provide persons with disabilities the same opportunity as others to realize and prove their potential. This 1995 Special Olympics World Games coin contains 26.73 grams of 90% silver, and features Eunice Kennedy Shriver, who is credited for founding the Special Olympics. It is the first U.S. coin to feature a living woman on it at the time it was minted.
Obverse: Eunice Kennedy Shriver, “Liberty,” “In God We Trust,” the date, and “Special Olympics World Games” are inscribed.
Reverse: The denomination, as well as a quote from Eunice Kennedy Shriver that states: “As we hope for the best in them, hope is reborn in us.”
