Description
With an announced maximum mintage of only 30,000 pieces, as well as a stunningly beautiful design, the 2017 Australian Lunar 1 oz Gold Rooster is a collector’s dream. Containing one full ounce of .9999 fine gold, the reverse of these magnificent coins depicts a razor sharp image of a majestic, crowing rooster with the rising sun in the background. In the foreground is the Chinese symbol for rooster, as well as the 2017 date, the weight and purity of the coin and the Perth Mint’s “P” mint mark. The obverse of the coin features the Ian Rank-Broadley likeness of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II along with the face value of $100, the words “Queen Elizabeth II” and “Australia”, all of which is encircled by images of the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac.
The Australian Lunar 1 oz Gold Rooster is the 10th release in this series, corresponding with the Rooster’s position as the 10th animal in the Chinese zodiac, which traditionally begins with the Year of the Rat. Following the Rat, the sequence of animals in the Chinese zodiac is: Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig.
Since there are 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac, the animal assignments repeat every 12 years. A person born in 2017 is said to be born in the Year of the Rooster. Similarly, a person born 12 years earlier, in 2005 was also born in the Year of the Rooster, as was a person born in 1993 and every 12 years prior to that.
In Chinese astrology, the animal signs assigned by year represent the way you are perceived by others, or the way you present yourself.
