Description
Designed by George Morgan, the Morgan silver dollar is without question one of the most, if not the single most popular coin among collectors of United States coins. Large and stunningly beautiful, these coins are 90% pure silver and weigh 26.73 grams, giving them a net silver content of .7734 ounces of pure silver. The United States Mint produced Morgan silver dollars from 1878 to 1921 (with a gap from 1905 to 1920 due to a silver shortage, rectified by the Pittman Act of 1918, which authorized the government to melt down more than 270 MILLION silver dollars – basically to get the silver to make more silver dollars!)
While all Morgan silver dollars are highly desirable, Morgans produced at the Carson City, Nevada mint are especially prized and always command a premium – sometimes a significant premium – over “common date” Morgans. The present example is a beauty – blast white, with only moderate distractions in the fields, and in nearly brand-new condition as graded an extremely respectable AU58 by NGC, one of the two premiere coin grading services in the country. We don’t expect this coin to last very long, so make it yours today!
