Description
1997 Chinese 1-oz silver Panda coins have a total mintage of 50,000 pieces, comprising both the large date and the small date varieties. Neither variety seems to be much, if any rarer or more desirable than the other, but the different varieties adds to the excitement of collecting! The large and small date varieties are easily distinguishable by the placement of the date digits; if you look at the handrails on either side of the steps, if you visualize an imaginary line extending the handrails all the way to the bottom of the coin, the extended lines would bisect the “1” and the “8” on the large date coin, while the “1” and the “8” would be far from the extended lines on the small date coins.
