Australia’s involvement in World War II in the Pacific was marked by its steadfast commitment to defending the region against Japanese expansion. As the conflict unfolded, Australian forces played a pivotal role in key battles and campaigns that became critical in stemming the Japanese advance.
This historical event is remembered in the 2014 1/2 oz .999 silver Battle of the Coral Sea coin created by the Perth Mint. The reverse features a World War II battleship with guns raised with the inscriptions of “BATTLE OF THE CORAL SEA” and “WAR IN THE PACIFIC 1941 – 1945.” The obverse includes Queen Elizabeth II’s effigy, mint year, size, purity, denomination and country of origin.
