Description
The Australian Wedge Tailed Eagle Silver Coin is one of the most popular coins bought by Americans interested in silver from foreign mints. Introduced by the Perth Mint in 2014, the coins have had a new design each year since the 2016 release and the beautiful imagery comes from former US Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti.
The Australian Wedge Tail Eagle Silver Coin is the Perth Mint’s popular answer to the United States Mint’s American Silver Eagle Series. It features beautiful imagery on the reverse each year of the Wedge Tail Eagle, the largest bird of prey in Australia known for the visible wedge shape of its tail feathers.
During the first two release years (2014-2015), the Perth Mint used the same design on the reverse side of the coins. Beginning in 2016, Perth Mint introduced a new design on the reverse each year to add value and demand to the already popular series.
On the reverse of the 2018 1 oz Australian Wedge Tail Eagle Silver Coin is the image of an eagle family. In the background you’ll notice one adult eagle flying back to the nest, with wings spread wide. In the foreground, a large adult wedge tail eagle stands in the nest leaning its beak down toward a small hatchling.
The obverse of the Australian Wedge Tail Eagle Silver Coin features the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
