Description
This 2019 Apollo 11 commemorative is the first coin ever to be domed-shaped and also contain 5 troy ounces of .999 fine silver! It commemorates the 50th anniversary of the first manned craft to land on the moon, which occurred on July 20, 1969. It is a part of the Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Commemorative Coin Program, which has also released the same design in other various sizes, weights and metals. The obverse, which is curved inwards, depicts the print of an astronaut’s boot on the lunar surface – an image famously captured by Buzz Aldrin via photograph and now immortalized in silver! The reverse, which is curved outwards, mimics the reflection of Buzz Aldrin’s space suit’s visor, and reflects the image of Neil Armstrong, the American flag, and “The Eagle” lunar module.
Obverse: Depiction of the first step on the moon, the words “MERCURY * GEMINI * APOLLO,” the date, “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “LIBERTY” are inscribed.
Reverse: Depiction of a reflected image of Buzz Aldrin, the American Flag, “The Eagle” lunar module, the denomination of “ONE DOLLAR,” and motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM” are inscribed.
Diameter: 3 inches; Width: .441 inches.
